Plus Wine Tasting from Five Local wineries on June 21
More than 30 artists from around the country will gather to paint in Los Gatos this weekend for the sixth annual Los Gatos Plein Air Fine Art Exhibition & Wine Tasting, sponsored by Los Gatos Morning Rotary.
This juried event brings nationally recognized Plein Air artists to Los Gatos to paint “en plein air,” which refers to the 19th century style of painting “in the open air” on location. The artists will paint scenes around the town from June 17-20, culminating in the Fine Art Exhibit and Sale open to the public on Saturday, June 21, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Town Plaza. The art they have created in the previous few days will be on display and available for sale.
Admission is free and free mini art classes will be held for children. The afternoon will feature live music and wine tasting with five Los Gatos wineries: Muns Vineyard, Perrucci Family Vineyard, Downhill Cellars, Left Bend Winery, and Black Ridge Vineyards. Wine tasting tickets will be sold for a small fee as part of the event’s fund raising efforts, and includes a commemorative wine glass.
A VIP artist’s reception and silent auction will be held Friday, June 20, 7-10 p.m. at California Café, at which time attendees will have the first chance to view and bid on the paintings. Tickets are $125, available from the Plein Air website at www.lgpleinair.org.
“Los Gatos Plein Air is a nationally-recognized event,” said Ginger Taylor McDonald, co-chair of the event. “It draws hundreds of visitors and art aficionados to Los Gatos. The artists are selected in a jury process, and they are very talented. You may see them painting around town that week. On Saturday at the exhibit we will have more than 100 original paintings, in oils, watercolors and pastels that the public can enjoy – and hopefully want to take home with them!”
Los Gatos Plein Air raises funds for local arts programs, including Montalvo Arts Center Education Programs, Los Gatos Art Museums, Los Gatos Music & Art, Lighting for Literacy, Art Docents of Los Gatos, and Los Gatos Morning Rotary Charitable Foundation.
