White Wine of the Week
A pick from Her VineNess
2012 “LOLA” Steven Kent Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, Livermore Valley, $24
The 2012 “Lola” Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend from Steven Kent takes the relative sassiness of the former and the honeycomb and lemon curd of the latter, to create a classic white Bordeaux blend. Although both varieties were separately fermented in stainless steel, a small portion of the Sauv Blanc was done in acacia wood barrels, which brings out the truly tropical notes, especially the starfruit and mango, which lurk among the lime peel, clementine and ginger root. There’s even a tad of green apple in here, as the wine did not undergo malolactic, to preserve its fruit-freshness. LOLA would like to be introduced to a creamy fruit tart topped with kiwi and mandarin, and she wouldn’t say “no” to a shaving of coconut.
LOLA can be purchased for $24 on the Steven Kent website at shop.stevenkent.com/SHOP
