White Wine of the Week
A Pick from Her VineNess
2012 Byington “Liage,” Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, Paso Robles,
13.7 percent alcohol, $24
Byington, high in the Santa Cruz Mountains, has traditionally done two blends: Liage and Alliage. The former is white, the latter red, and the blend can vary from year to year. This beautiful white, made of Sauvignon Blanc and a touch of Viognier, is a spot-on summer sipper with heady aromas of fresh picked pineapple, red grapefruit and guava, and spunky flavors of greengage plums, kiwi fruit, honeydew melon and sassy white grapefruit. Very refreshing and quite elegant, this wine will make a lasting impression.
This wine can be purchased for $24 on the Byington Winery website at www.byington.com/2012-liage/
