Red Wine of the Week
A Pick From Her VineNess
2011 Morgan Cote du Crow’s, Monterey, $18
One of Morgan Winery’s most popular alternatives to Pinot Noir, the 2011 Cote du Crow’s, from the Monterey appellation, is an easy-to-love blend of 60 percent Syrah and 40 percent Grenache. As usual, the ever-gregarious Grenache is so precocious, there is no way the Syrah can even introduce itself properly. It simply becomes the chair upon which the well-endowed and flashy Grenache pillow sits, all red-headed and green-eyed with freckles to boot. This is a sensationally strawberry-fruited wine, like red vine licorice and strawberry pop tarts. Serve this with grilled chicken breasts that have been basted in apricot red pepper topping from B &R Farms in Hollister, accompanied by strawberry tarragon preserves from the Santa Cruz-based Friend in Cheeses portfolio. Truly a scrumptious pairing!
This wine can be purchased at the winery located at 204 Crossroads Boulevard in
Carmel or on the Morgan website.
