Wine of the Week
2009 Aratas Napa Valley Petite Sirah, $45
This is the encore vintage of Aratas from their vineyard planted to just 1.6 acres in the Oak Knoll AVA. This is a magnificent wine that was fermented on native yeast in small open top fermentation tanks for tannin management, then aged for almost two years in French and Hungarian oak barrels. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Where do I start with this wine? I am bowled over with the gorgeous dark, dark Petite Sirah color, and the velvety, fruit forward and amazing balance of this BIG wine. I have been pouring it in my tasting room since March and almost everyone that tastes it makes the exact same “OMG” face and then buys at least one bottle. This is one of those wines that you just have to have.
This award winning wine earned 92 Points from Wine Spectator and won a Double Gold at the San Francisco Chronicle Competition.
You can purchase this wine direct from Aratas Winery at www.arataswine.com or stop in to Ruthe Roberts Wine Collective in old town Saratoga. Either location sells this for $45 a bottle.
